Delta Air Lines Cancels Hundreds of Flights Amid Construction and Storms
Delta's cancellations exceed those of any other airline
Delta Air Lines has cancelled hundreds of flights today, far exceeding the number of cancellations by any other airline. As of 3 pm Eastern time on Tuesday, Delta has scratched 471 flights, compared to United Airlines' 168 cancellations, American Airlines' 130 cancellations, and Southwest Airlines' 87 cancellations. The cancellations are due to a combination of factors, including ongoing construction at John F. Kennedy International Airport and severe thunderstorms across the country.
Delta's Monday cancellations were also high
On Monday, Delta had cancelled over 800 flights, or about 21% of its scheduled total, as of 3:30 pm Eastern time. This was significantly higher than the number of cancellations by other airlines: United Airlines cancelled 142 flights, American Airlines cancelled 87 flights, and Southwest Airlines cancelled 76 flights.
The high number of cancellations is likely to cause significant delays and disruptions for travelers. Passengers are advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
