Bridget Carletons Late Three Pushes Lynx Past Sun

Bridget Carleton's Late Three Pushes Lynx Past Sun

Triple-double by Nurse not enough as Carleton sinks game-winner

Carleton's Heroics Give Lynx 82-81 Win

Bridget Carleton came up clutch for the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday night, hitting a game-winning three-pointer with just seconds remaining to give her team an 82-81 victory over the Connecticut Sun.

The Lynx trailed by four points with less than a minute to play, but Carleton drained a three to cut the deficit to one. After the Sun missed a shot, Carleton grabbed the rebound and was fouled. She made the ensuing free throw to give the Lynx a one-point lead.

The Sun had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but Alyssa Thomas' three-point attempt bounced off the rim. Carleton's heroics gave the Lynx their second win of the season and improved their record to 2-3.

Carleton finished the game with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, recording her first career triple-double. She also had three steals and two blocks.

Kia Nurse led the Sun with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, but her heroics were not enough to overcome Carleton's late-game heroics.

"Bridget made a big shot for us," Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said. "She's a special player, and she's capable of doing great things. We're lucky to have her."

Carleton said she was just glad she could help her team win.

"I was just trying to make a play," Carleton said. "I knew we needed a bucket, and I was fortunate enough to make the shot."

The Lynx will look to build on their win when they host the Las Vegas Aces on Friday night.
