Jane's Addiction: A Psychedelic Journey of Music and Excess

A Brief History of Jane's Addiction

Jane's Addiction was formed in 1985 by Perry Farrell and Eric Avery. The band's lineup was completed by Dave Navarro on guitar, Michael Balzary (known as Flea) on bass, and Stephen Perkins on drums. Jane's Addiction quickly gained a following on the Los Angeles club scene for their energetic live performances and their unique blend of psychedelic rock, punk, and funk. In 1988, Jane's Addiction released their debut album, "Nothing's Shocking." The album was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish the band as one of the leading alternative rock bands of the late 1980s. The album featured the hit singles "Mountain Song" and "Jane Says," which became anthems for the band's fans. Jane's Addiction followed up "Nothing's Shocking" with the album "Ritual de lo Habitual" in 1990. The album was even more successful than their debut, and it featured the hit singles "Been Caught Stealing" and "Stop!" Jane's Addiction toured extensively in support of "Ritual de lo Habitual," but the band's success was overshadowed by Farrell's increasingly erratic behavior. In 1991, Jane's Addiction disbanded. Farrell went on to form the band Porno for Pyros, while Navarro joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Avery, Balzary, and Perkins formed the band Deconstruction. Jane's Addiction reunited in 1997 for a series of live performances. The band released a new album, "Strays," in 2003. Jane's Addiction has continued to tour and record sporadically since then.
